Periodically we take stock with our clients to step back and re-evaluate where they’re headed professionally and personally. This gives our clients a good opportunity to ensure their individual and business goals are aligned and are still on track to be achieved.
It’s also important to ensure our clients are still passionate about what they spend their time doing, as people who are passionate about their business generally do better than those who are not.
A good analogy of this is Simon Sinek’s “Start with the Why” – understanding your purpose in business will make other decisions easier.
We thought it appropriate to share Simon Sinek’s inspirational Ted Talk on leadership.
Simon’s three golden circles focussing on What you do, How you do it and most importantly Why you do it will help you get to the core of your purpose in business. Starting with your “Why”, your purpose for existence will revolutionise:
- What you do and how you do it
- Who you hire in your team
- How you communicate to your customers and prospects
We often strategize with our clients over hiring for attitude over skills. You can teach skills, but you can’t teach an attitude or belief. Having staff on your team who have the same core beliefs as you will outweigh skills every day of the week.
So let me ask you - do you know why you’re in business, your purpose for opening your doors each day? Do you share this with your team and ensure they’re on the same page? Does this pour out to your customers in their interactions? Has your Why changed over time?
As the year rolls to a close, it’s a good time to re-evaluate your Why. At PJT it’s an integral part of our annual goal setting sessions with clients. If you’d like to book a session for early in the new year, give me a call on 07 5413 9300.
