A 2.5 % increase to minimum wages was announced by the Fair Work Commission. The increase will apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2015.
The wage increase applies to employees that are under the national minimum wage, a modern award or in some instances, a registered agreement*.
The new minimum wage will be set at $656.90 per week, up from $640.90. The new hourly rate is $17.29 up from $16.87. Most employees should be covered by the award. Award rates will increase by 2.5%.
*Awards don’t apply when a business has an enterprise agreement or other registered agreement and the employee is covered by it.
